PRISM Partnership proposed to sustain new approach to equipment procurement

Cecilia Öman – Scientific Programme Coordinator attended a meeting in December 2011 in Abuja, Nigeria, of the MacArthur Foundation funded  project ‘Procurement, Installation, Service, Maintenance and Use of Scientific Equipment’ (known as PRISM) which is managed by IFS.

The meeting included representatives from scientific organisation authorities, researchers, technicians and technologists and equipment suppliers, as well as strategic partners who attended parts of the meeting. These included the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), the Nigerian office of the World Bank and the Tertiary Educational Trust Fund (TETF). In total there were 40 stakeholders from Nigeria present at the event with Madagascar stakeholders being involved through internet.

It was proposed at the meeting that the PRISM Nigeria office would launch a PRISM Partnership. The Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) offered to host the launching. The Partnership would then address the required training. The Nigerian World Bank office and the Nigerian Tertiary Educational Trust Funds (TETF) said that they would welcome proposals for follow-on funding once the MacArthur funded project administered by IFS closes.
