IFS holds Assessment Workshop at African Academy of Sciences

Published: 2013-07-11

The International Foundation for Science held a series of eight Scientific Advisory Committee meetings, along with a workshop on the assessment of proposals within the new IFS strategy, at the African Academy of Sciences from 25 May through 2 June 2013 in Nairobi. The meetings and workshop involved many SAC members, IFS Trustees, Management, Scientific Coordinators and Administrators.

The main aim of the meeting in AAS was to share the ongoing changes in IFS and to get everyone’s input on the assessment process within the three new research areas:

  • Sustainable Natural Resources Management
  • Water and Aquatic Resources
  • Food Production, Food security and Nutrition

There were presentations about the new research areas, and the individual and collaborative Research approaches. The workshop deliberated about the administration of three research areas in place of eight, modification of the assessment system and the use of Qualitative and Quantitative approaches, as well as the possible role going forwards for the Scientific and Grants Committee.

A full report of the workshop proceedings is available here.
